To Scrub or Not To Scrub
To scrub or not to scrub? Lol jks that’s not even a question. Exfoliation is an essential step for ALL SKIN TYPES. It helps to buff away dead skin cells that build up on the surface causing breakouts and it reveals a more even, radiant, smoother complexion. They can come in different types, both physical (beads or bits) and “chemical” (lactic, salicylic, glycolic acids) and there are different exfoliants for different skins. From left:- Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant Super gentle rice-based exfoliating powder that activates upon contact with water. Can be mixed with your favourite cleanser too. Colloidal oatmeal and allantoin calms skin while salicylic acid, phytic acid and rice enzymes polish skin. Philosophy Microdelivery Peel Kit Long-time love of mine since my days as a Mecca Cosmetica gal! Two-step exfoliant and peel resurfaces and rejuvenates sun-damaged, scarred skin like a dream. Step 1 is a vitamin-c scrub that smells like Butter Menthols while Step 2 is a lactic/salicylic acid activating gel. Murad AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser 3 acids (lactic, glycolic and salicylic) plus jojoba beads gently yet effectively buff and eat away dead skin. I use this 2 x per week (face AND BODY - bye ingrowns) and leave on in the shower like a mini peel before rinsing! Alya Skin Pomegranate Exfoliating Facial Scrub The newest to my collection is this pomegranate scrub. Pomegranate extract is a powerful antioxidant that helps with refining pore size. Not sure what the scrubby bits are made of but it’s a bit more scratchy so even though the site says it’s for all skin types, sensitive skin might not enjoy this as much. Murad Pore Extracting Pomegranate Mask This is a clay mask and exfoliant in one. Pomegranate extract refines pore size, polylactic acid in biodegradable beads lift and exfoliate dead skin cells and volcanic clay draws out impurities from deep within pores like a magnet😍 Side note: the pomegranate smells AH-MAH-ZING. MAC Cosmetics Volcanic Ash Exfoliator Dual-action mask and scrub uses volcanic ash to deeply cleanse and fine sugar crystals to exfoliate. I like this more for its Exfoliating properties rather than its deep cleansing. If I want a deep pore cleanse I’ll use the Murad Mask. This also smells yummy though! What are your favourite go-to scrubs??
